Autodesk 가 AutoCAD 11을 발표하며, 이 버전은 network환경을 지원하도록 설계되어 있습니다. 또한 페이퍼 스페이스를 지원하는 최초의 버전이 됩니다.
Auto Shade version 2가 AutoCAD 11에 추가가 되며, 이 모듈을 통해 3D Mode(AME)l에 대한 쉐이딩을 할 수 있게 됩니다. 그리고 Renderman 은 R12에 추가가 됩니다.

연 말 Autodesk는 500,000카피의 AutoCAD와 300,000 카피의 Generic CAD 그리고 200,000 카피의 Auto Sketch를 판매하게 되며, 3개의 제품은 세계에서 가장 많이 판매된 제품에 속하게 됩니다.
또한 1990년 부터 Autodesk는 Byte manazine에서 부여하는 "The Best CAD Product" 을 향후 8년까지 받게 됩니다.

Since 1991, Microsoft developed Open GL for use with Windows NT. Open GL is an API procedural software interface for producing 3D graphics and includes approximate 120 commands to draw various primitives such as points, lines, and polygons.
Also includes support for shading, texture mapping, anti-aliasing, lighting and animation, atmospheric effects such as fogging and simulation of depth-of-field.
Open GL, developed by Silicon Graphics, is a standard for the 3D color graphics programming and rendering.
